How to Play the Tangrams Reference Game

Game Overview

The Tangrams Reference Game involves two players: a speaker and a listener.

The Basic Process

  1. The speaker sees a grid of tangram images and one specific target image.
  2. The speaker describes the target image in detail.
  3. The listener sees the same grid of tangram images (in a different order) and the speaker's description.
  4. The listener selects which image they think is being described.

If You're the Speaker

Your task is to create a clear, detailed description of the target image that will help the listener identify it correctly from the grid. Focus on the shape, geometric features, and what the image might resemble. Be specific enough that someone could pick it out from similar shapes.

If You're the Listener

Your task is to carefully read the speaker's description and select the image from the grid that best matches that description. Pay attention to the details and characteristics mentioned.

Experiment Variants

Depending on the experiment you join, you might be consistently assigned either the speaker or listener role, or your role might alternate between rounds.
